Sadie Catt
My
earliest memory of Emily is in
Elementary. We both had gold
pom-poms. My last memory of Emily
is in High School. We had ninth
hour Honors Language Skills
together, she was the smarter one.
I cannot say that was my last
memory. I went to see Emily in the
hospital two days before she went to
be with her Lord in Heaven. The
memories of Em in the hospital are
not primarily what I focus on.
However, they are impossible
to
forget. Although she was not
physically strong, her positive
attitude and bravery continues to
remind me who she truly was. "A
friend is a person who knows your
past, believes in your future, and
accepts you just the way you are."
When I read this sign on my wall
every morning, it reminds me of Em.
She never held grudges on anyone and
always tried to help. Emily was
such an encouraging and positive
person to be around. I never once
saw her put someone down. Emily
accepted your quirks and never
judged your choices, she supported
them. Em was not only a friend, but
also a teammate and peer. Her
dedication and determination would
show in the gym when she played for
the win. Her grades showed the
effort she gave, although in the
classroom you wouldn't guess it. I
don't think that I ever say her
finish an assignment in class, but
when it came time for the test, Em
would get an "A" and me, who studied
my butt off, came out with the
"B+". Em loved to talk.
She was
never seen without her cell phone on
her hip or on her ear. Her laugh
was contagious. Her hair was envied
and her name was known.
Emily Jo Duits has inspired my life
in so many ways. She brought God
into my life, and showed the true
meaning of friendship. I will
forever remEMber Emily and what an
impact she has had on my life. She
will forever hold a special place in
my heart!
